ESMoA Experience #41: OZ

El Segundo Museum of Art presents Experience 41:​ OZ​ from June 13 through September 21.  

Experience 41: OZ invites visitors to immerse themselves in the world of Oz created by storyteller L. Frank Baum. OZ is organized by Jeff Cason with curatorial support by Barbara Boehm and Eugenia Torre.

This Experience will feature over 80 artworks and artifacts from the original book and its inspired stories. On display will be all 40 books in the Oz series as well as original and rare framed illustrations by the Oz illustrators, W. W. Denslow, John R. Neill and more.

ESMoA Drawing Club

Every Friday

ESMoA - Just DrawEl Segundo Museum of Art hosts the Drawing Club every Friday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

In this informal drawing club, attendees will start with warm-up drawing exercises and then take inspiration from the featured artworks. No artistic experience is required and all supplies will be provided. This program is for adults.

Kid’s Club @ The Point

Third Thursdays, May through December

Kids-Club-The_PointThe Point hosts the Mommy & Me (and Daddy’s, too!) Kid’s Club the third Thursday of every month, May through December, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Parents of pre-schoolers know it’s not always easy to keep kids stimulated and occupied, and it can be downright exhausting. Luckily, The Point is kicking off a monthly Kid’s Club to provide nothing but fun activities and good times for South Bay families, at no charge. Parents and their pre-school aged kids are welcome to come to The Point for arts and crafts, live entertainment, face painting, stilt walker, Smitten Ice Cream tastings and more!

Athleta FREE Workouts @ The Point

AthletaAthleta presents FREE Workouts every Sunday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. at The Point in El Segundo.

Join the Athleta crew for a FREE workout taught by local instructors on the grass in the Plaza. The schedule includes Yoga, Couples Yoga, Yoga Cycle, Pilates, Sweat & Sculpt and more. Get ready to get your sweat on during these fun workouts! All you need to bring is your mat, water and a friend!

Tight, tense, and not flexible? The answer is Yoga. This class is designed to sculpt your body making tight areas more agile It also improves and makes many functional activities a lot easier on your muscles and joints. Variations and modifications are given to accommodate all levels and abilities.

Enjoy food and drinks after class, prAna provides the yoga mats, and it’s open to all ages and skill levels!

The Point Summer Music Series

July 3 – August 28, 2019

The Point hosts the annual Summer Music Series every Wednesday night from July 3 through August 28.

As the sun begins to set on the day, head to The Point every Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. throughout July and August to celebrate hot summer nights.

Spread out a blanket, snuggle up and rock out to a different genre of music every week. From R&B to Smooth Jazz, the South Bay’s Living Room is sure to become a part of your weekly summer routine.

It’s a fun and relaxing way to spend a Wednesday evening, so grab a few friends, a couple of blankets and beach chairs and get to The Point!

El Segundo Art Walk

July 18, 2019

The community is invited to attend the El Segundo Art Walk on Thursday, July 18 from 5 to 9 p.m.

Located in the Downtown and Smoky Hollow districts, over thirty creative El Segundo businesses will open their doors for studio tours and become a pop-up gallery displaying original artwork of Los Angeles based artists.

ESAW pairs artists with local businesses to display their work on the premises. Yes, it is an art walk, but the art is only half of the attraction. The venues are what make the event so unique. El Segundo has an abundance of remarkable and historic architecture, most of which house businesses not open to the general public. The opportunity to gain access to these distinctive spaces makes for an extraordinary experience.

El Segundo Summer Concerts in the Park

The City of El Segundo Recreation & Parks Department presents the Summer Concerts in the Park series sponsored by Chevron on Sunday, July 28 at 4 p.m.

These free concerts take place on select Sunday evenings at Library Park located in the 600 block of Main Street in beautiful downtown El Segundo. Activities begin at 4 p.m. with the music starting at 4:30 and running until 6 p.m. Gourmet food trucks will be on site and kids can stop by the gazebo for free face painting and arts & crafts provided by Camp Cowabungo Day Camp.

Go Fly a Kite Day

The City of El Segundo Parks & Recreation Department hosts Go Fly a Kite Day on Sunday, August 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Recreation Park.

The event features food and beverage vendors, live music, kite crafting area and more. PLUS, the first 50 families will receive FREE kites!

Pediatric Therapy Network presents PlayFest on Sunday, August 4 from 4 to 9 p.m.

Play the PTN way! The event features live music, dinner, open bar, interactive sensory experiences and a silent auction.

This first annual fundraiser will showcase and support Pediatric Therapy Network’s innovative programs and services for children with developmental and medical concerns.

National Night Out

August 6, 2019

National-Night-Out-2016The annual National Night Out takes place this year on Tuesday, August 6.

This unique crime and drug prevention event is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. The National Night Out campaign involves citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities in all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.

This annual event is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness by generating support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; strengthening neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and sending a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Family Camp Out

August 10 & 11, 2019

The City of El Segundo Recreation and Parks Department hosts the annual Family Camp Out in the Park on Saturday, August 10 and Sunday, August 11.

Families are invited to camp out under the stars at Stevenson Field and enjoy an evening of fun. Stevenson Field opens at 4 p.m. for campers to set up their tents. The event includes Saturday dinner, Sunday breakfast, games and activities, movie at dusk and s’mores around the campfire.

El Segundo Main Street Car Show

August 17, 2019

The El Segundo Chamber of Commerce, El Segundo Police Officers Association and Automobile Driving Museum present the annual Main Street Car Show on Saturday, August 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the 100 to 500 blocks of Main Street.

The Main Street Car Show is open to all pre-1975 custom classic street rods, antique sports cars, race cars and special interest cars. The event also features live music and a raffle with some great prizes. Enjoy the sights and sounds as you stroll along the streets of downtown El Segundo surrounded by impressive engine blocks, tricked out exhaust systems, custom paint jobs, lavish interiors and swanky rims.

Summer Swing Nights @ The ADM

August 17 & September 21, 2019

The Automobile Driving Museum presents Summer Swing Nights on Saturday, August 17 and Saturday, September 21 from 6 to 10 p.m.

Put on your dancing shoes and turn back the clock to the Big Band sounds of the 1930s and 40s. The evening features the Swing Tones with their 7-piece Big Band and host Rob Pope. Enjoy favorite tunes such as Chattanooga Choo Choo, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and more, revived to their original Big Band Glory, then get your picture taken next to that one-of-a-kind 1940’s car of your dreams. The Food Truck Fair and Swinging Bar will keep your cravings down so you can dance the night away!
