For over eight years, South Bay by Jackie.com has kept the community informed of all the incredible leisure activities and special events taking place in our seaside bubble. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re temporarily switching gears to act as a clearing house for hyper-local news.

We’re receiving information from multiple, reliable sources. In order to distribute all of this information in a timely manner, we’re posting several announcements to the Daily Blog page each day.

ESMoA Drawing Club

Every Friday

ESMoA - Just DrawEl Segundo Museum of Art hosts the Drawing Club every Friday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

In this informal drawing club, attendees will start with warm-up drawing exercises and then take inspiration from the featured artworks. No artistic experience is required and all supplies will be provided. This program is for adults.

Kid’s Club @ The Point

Third Thursdays, May through December

Kids-Club-The_PointThe Point hosts the Mommy & Me (and Daddy’s, too!) Kid’s Club the third Thursday of every month, May through December, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Parents of pre-schoolers know it’s not always easy to keep kids stimulated and occupied, and it can be downright exhausting. Luckily, The Point is kicking off a monthly Kid’s Club to provide nothing but fun activities and good times for South Bay families, at no charge. Parents and their pre-school aged kids are welcome to come to The Point for arts and crafts, live entertainment, face painting, stilt walker, Smitten Ice Cream tastings and more!

Athleta FREE Workouts @ The Point

AthletaAthleta presents FREE Workouts every Sunday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. at The Point in El Segundo.

Join the Athleta crew for a FREE workout taught by local instructors on the grass in the Plaza. The schedule includes Yoga, Couples Yoga, Yoga Cycle, Pilates, Sweat & Sculpt and more. Get ready to get your sweat on during these fun workouts! All you need to bring is your mat, water and a friend!

prAna Community Yoga @ The Point

prAna_YOGAprAna offers FREE Community Yoga every Saturday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. in store at The Point.

Tight, tense, and not flexible? The answer is Yoga. This class is designed to sculpt your body making tight areas more agile It also improves and makes many functional activities a lot easier on your muscles and joints. Variations and modifications are given to accommodate all levels and abilities.

Enjoy food and drinks after class, prAna provides the yoga mats, and it’s open to all ages and skill levels!

El Segundo Museum of Art

ESMoA - sbbjThe El Segundo Museum of Art (ESMoA) opened its doors in January 2013 with the intent to make art more accessible through creative and interactive experiences designed to engage the community.

Founded by Brian and Eva Sweeney and curated by Bernhard Zuenkeler, ESMoA is a non-profit art space located in a new building next to the former post office on Main Street.

Vintage Car Rides @ The Automobile Driving Museum

011@2013-03-25T03;27;04Southern California has a rich automotive history and the Automobile Driving Museum (ADM) is a favorite of car aficionados.

Located in El Segundo, the ADM exists to preserve automotive history. The ADM has an impressive, rotating collection of 130 classic, antique and historic cars on display.

Several Southern California collector car clubs showcase their vehicles at the ADM and on any given weekend you can find collections of particular makes and models.

Help R6 Distillery Make Hand Sanitizer!

There have been numerous requests from fire fighters, police officers, doctors, nurses, and hospitals requesting assistance with the production of hand sanitizer.

R6 Distillery has launched a GoFundMe page to help with an initiative directed toward EMS and first responders in the LA area. In order to do so, R6 needs to spend a significant amount of capital to bring in the raw material to provide such relief.

They are receiving dozens of calls and emails daily, and their top priority remains police, fire, government agencies, and hospitals requesting support for this specific need.

The Great American Takeout

America’s restaurants are in crisis. The coronavirus poses a significant threat to the future of an industry that employs more than 15 million Americans. Everyone is encouraged to support restaurants and their employees by joining #TheGreatAmericanTakeout and ordering at least one delivery or pick-up meal.

Here’s How You Can Help:
-Hype it up. Post to social media platforms.
-Rally the troops. Reach out to your community and encourage them to participate.
-Eat. Order takeout or delivery from your favorite restaurant. Don’t forget to post a snap or video of your meal, tagged with #thegreatamericantakeout.
-Repeat. The Great American Takeout is only the beginning. Keep supporting our nation’s restaurants by ordering takeout or delivery as often as you can.

Monday Morning Java

Brian Evans, Certified Business Coach will host Monday Morning Java with Brian Evans, a weekly, hour-long, facilitated, open-forum-style offering for entrepreneurs, business owners and nonprofit leaders from 9 to 10 a.m. via Zoom.

Participants will talk business strategies, networking/partnerships, and inspiration for any industry – and for any business large or small – in a fun, casual, lightly-structured virtual lounge setting.

COVID-19 Small Business Forum

The El Segundo Chamber of Commerce will host a COVID-19 Small Business Forum on April 7 from 10 to 11 a.m. via Zoom

The forum will offer a step-by-step walk through of how to apply for the Small Business Administration’s new Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). The guest present is Bryan Moeller, Senior Vice-President, Retail & Small Business Credit Manager at Wells Fargo.

Virtual Belly Dance Class

Pull & Thread will host a Virtual Bellydance Class on Wednesday, April 1 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. via Zoom.

This is a full body belly dance inspired workout that provides a complete mind/body/spirit experience, tightening up those curves while exploring an ancient feminine art. Participants leave relaxed, invigorated, and in touch with their body in a new and refreshing way.
