TAM Fall Exhibitions

September 21 – November 16, 2019

Torrance Art Museum (TAM) two Fall Exhibitions opening on Saturday, September 21 from 6 to 9 p.m.

The Main Gallery hosts Material Matters as one of seven venues in the Los Angeles region taking part in the 5th SUR:biennial (2019). Gallery Two examines superheroes in contemporary art with To Save The Day!

Material Matters features works by Cruz Castillo, Elisa Ortega Montilla, Ruben Ochoa, and Tessie Salcido Whitmore. These four artists gather together the materials of urban life, here in Southern California – plastics, steel, concrete, fabrics, detritus – and manipulate them in order to address themes of identity, memory, political positions, and the poetics of the urban environment. The artists make discoveries with these gathered materials and reassemble them in new ways to bring a fresh insight into what it might mean to be urban within our massive contemporary metropolis.

First Saturdays

Keep the Esplanade Beautiful presents the monthly Esplanade Sweep the first Saturday of each month.

Each of us that walks, runs, rides, or just sits along the Esplanade enjoying the view have a vested interest and responsibility to help maintain it. While we enjoy the Esplanade in different ways, perhaps with our friends and families, our dogs and bike riding clubs, some debris and wear and tear is inevitable, but it’s not just the city’s responsibility to clean up after us – we are all responsible for our environment.

The Keep the Esplanade Beautiful committee is reaching out to the community and asking you to come out every first Saturday for an hour, and join fellow residents in a team effort to “Help Keep the Esplanade Clean”.
