June 10, 2012 – Louis Zamperini at the Toyota Auto Museum

I just returned from seeing Louis Zamperini speak at the Toyota Auto Museum in Torrance. For those of you unfamiliar with his story, Mr.Zamparini is a native of Torrance and if the name sounds familiar, it’s because the Torrance airfield, Zamperini Field, was named after him when his plane went down during WWII and he was pronounced dead. Yet I just saw him alive and well. Obviously, the reports of his demise were greatly exaggerated! (I’ve always wanted to say that!) His entire life story is simply amazing and if you haven’t read Unbroken, the best-seller recounting his experiences at the Berlin Olympics and during WWII, well, run out and buy a copy now. I’ll be here when you finish it.
