  • South Bay by Jackie.com COVID-19 Website Announcement

    March 15, 2020

For the last nine years, South Bay by Jackie.com has kept the community informed of all the incredible leisure activities and special events taking place in our seaside bubble.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re temporarily switching gears to act as a clearing house for hyper-local news. We’re receiving COVID-19 updates and information from multiple, reliable sources. In order to distribute all of this information in a timely manner, we’re posting announcements to the Daily Blog page as we receive them.

Almost every South Bay event scheduled for the summer has been cancelled, postponed or reconfigured as a virtual event. There are still several events scheduled through the end of the year, which will be reevaluated by the host organizations in the coming months and we’ll update the website as we receive that information. We’re posting virtual and live stream events to the Special Events page.

We’re all in this together and we’ll get through this together, even though we can’t physically be together. #SouthBayStrong

  • ESMoA Experience #26: OOMO

    June 4 – September 26, 2020

ESMoA presents Experience 26: OOMO, a solo exhibition of photographic artist Nicole Maloney. The OOMO digital cube is a conceptual interactive art sculpture depicting human oneness and our symbiotic association with technology. OOMO asks the world to stand in awe instead of in judgment of one another.

OOMO| OUT OF MANY ONE: Maloney is on a mission to capture every face in the world on the OOMO digital cube to prove that out of many, we are one. One humanity. Our differences are vast, but our similarities are colossal. OOMO confronts man’s symbiotic relationship with technology by broadcasting each selfie on both a communal and global scale. OOMO represents humanity’s moral imperative: to seek peace and tolerance so that every man, woman and child will see the other as they see themselves.

Maloney’s seminal work began with the original OOMO cube installation located in downtown Los Angeles March 2014. This analog cube is a permanent public art piece confronting prejudice with tolerance. It stands 2.44 meters made of steel and aluminum resting on one point. The cube displays photographic images featuring the diversity of man through a mixture of faces printed on stainless steel on five of the six sides.

  • Support the South Coast Botanic Garden 2020 Flourish Fund

A message from the South Coast Botanic Garden….

The world has felt like a scary place the past few months. While many businesses around us closed, South Coast Botanic Garden remained open as a much-needed place of hope for our community.

Staying open has been no small feat. We acted swiftly and thoughtfully to implement solutions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and ensure the safety of staff and visitors, working under guidance from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

While we remain open as a safe place for all, it certainly is no longer business as usual. Many of the Garden’s typical sources of funding — including public programs, classes, plant sales, festivals and event rentals — have all been put on hold. The Garden is losing an estimated $4,000 per day during this crisis — a hard hit for our small organization.

That is why we are asking for your help today. You can help us weather this storm! Can we count on your support of our 2020 Flourish Fund with a fully tax-deductible gift today?

    To donate, visit https://southcoastbotanicgarden.org/shop/donations/flourish-fund-donations-to-the-garden/.

Your gift of any amount will allow our beautiful Garden to flourish for years to come and continue to unite people through nature. We are grateful for your continued and generous support. Any amount you can contribute helps.
