Red Tide & Bioluminescence

May 3, 2020

I’m sure you’ve heard the South Bay has been experiencing a massive red tide the last week and the bioluminescence has been off the charts!

The last few nights, we’ve ridden our bikes to the beach (I won’t say where) to see it. It’s absolutely incredible and we tried to take pics and video, but they came out awful and don’t do it justice (you really need to be a professional photographer with the right lenses and an understanding of lighting), BUT IT’S SO COOL!!!

What’s really hysterical is that the beach, bike paths, the Strand, the Esplanade, and beach adjacent parking lots and parks are closed, yet it’s been as crowded as the 4th of July with bumper to bumper traffic and people parking illegally all over the place. The police are driving with bull horns ordering people to leave and we saw them chasing people off the beach.

Yes, we are still under ‘Stay at Home’ orders, but when Mother Nature puts on such a spectacular show, people WILL come! .
