Your Story is the Peninsula’s Story Project

April 10, 2021

The community is invited to participate in Your Story is the Peninsula’s Story, a joint program of the Palos Verdes Library District and Palos Verdes Art Center to celebrate PVAC’s 90th anniversary. Since incorporation in 1931 as the Palos Verdes Community Arts Association, located in the historic Malaga Cove Library, PVAC has been a cultural touchstone in the lives of generations of Peninsula residents.

Your Story is the Peninsula’s Story (YSPS) is a project of the Library’s Local History Center designed to preserve the history of the Peninsula by archiving photographs and stories contributed by the community. This year, the Local History Center is adding an archive for the Palos Verdes Art Center’s 90-year history to the project.

Contributions will help build a resource of primary documentation so future generations can understand the role Palos Verdes Art Center has had in shaping the Peninsula. All contributions will become part of the Your Story is the Peninsula’s Story Collection on the Library’s digital repository at https://www.palosverdeshistory.org/ and will be shared on PVAC90: Past, Present and Future at https://pvartcenter.org/pvac-90/ .

Perhaps you have photos from when you were an Art At Your Fingertips docent in your children’s classroom, or from exhibitions, classes, workshops, and summer camps you attended at the Center. Maybe you have photos from your parents’ association with The Circle, The Associates, The Docent Council, or one of the seven artist groups who regularly exhibited in the galleries. Do you have photographs of the annual Art For Fun(d)s Sake community celebration or travel to Cuba or another location with PVAC? Every story matters and photos help tell it! We can’t wait to hear yours.

A dedicated online form makes participation easier than ever. Simply upload your image using the dedicated PVAC YSPS form available on the Local History Center webpage at https://pvld.org/localhistory/projects and at https://pvartcenter.org/pvac-90/.
