The South Bay is gearing up to hang ten at the 57th annual International Surf Festival, held from July 31 to August 4, presented by BEACHSPORT.org; the Chambers of Commerce and Cities of Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, and Torrance; the Los Angeles County Fire Department; and Department of Beaches and Harbors.
The event was formed in 1962 to promote the four South Bay beach cities, the world’s best lifeguard service, and physical fitness for thousands of participants of all ages. The three signature events for the festival are the Judge Taplin Lifeguard Medley Relay, the Dwight Crum Pier-to-Pier Swim, and the Charley Saikley 6-Man Volleyball Tournament. Other great events include a surfing contest, bodysurfing contest, beach run, paddleboard races, dory race, and youth events. The various events are held at the Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach piers, Torrance Beach, and Redondo Beach’s Seaside Lagoon and King Harbor Yacht Club. This great event wouldn’t be possible without the help of its volunteers. If you’d like to volunteer, please email ISF President Rob McGowan at email@example.com or Swim Coordinator Gary Crum at firstname.lastname@example.org.
