Have you been to Deluca Trattoria in El Segundo lately?
I haven’t dined there in years, but my husband and I were in the neighborhood for an Opening Reception at Holly Socrates Gallery, and he was in the mood for a bowl of pasta. He suggested Deluca’s and we were fortunate to get a table at 7 o’clock on a Saturday night.
I remembered Deluca’s as old school Italian – classic dishes, red and white checkered tablecloths, black and white photos, exposed brick, pastoral images of the Italian countryside. It was a place where my ninety year old Sicilian Godfather would feel right at home.
As we were seated, we noticed a few subtle changes. The checkered tablecloths were gone, new photos adorned the walls and there was a different energy in the room. We learned from our server about the new owner – Andrea Francesco is from Florence, Italy and he bought the restaurant about nine months ago. He completely overhauled the menu, which now features his mother’s traditional recipes.
For anyone that has spent time in Italy, you know the Italian food served there is very different from what is served here. We have a tendency in this country to ‘Americanize’ ethnic cuisines. The new Deluca’s offers authentic, oh-so-flavorful dishes that will make your mouth happy.
The next time you’re in the mood for Italian, check out Deluca Trattoria – and don’t take any chances, make a reservation!
