Last Sunday afternoon, we went down to Portofino Hotel/Baleen Kitchen for Sunday Funday and live music by Charis Rey & Friends.
Baleen has been offering live music at the small outdoor lounge/firepit area next to the restaurant for the last few summers. It’s a small area with limited seating and just wasn’t large enough for the number of people showing up.
This summer, they moved the venue to the gas dock at the end of the hotel parking lot where the marina office is located. It’s large enough for a handful of tables, umbrellas and other seating. There’s also a full bar and grill area offering a couple of menu items.
The music was terrific, the drinks icy cold, and the food was delicious! Throughout the afternoon, boaters, kayakers and paddle boarders would tie up at the dock to enjoy the music and grab a bite. The French Brigade showed up with several human friends, arriving on a giant paddle board!
There are only a couple more of these events scheduled this summer from 3 to 6 p.m. – Brent George on Sunday, August 18 and Arnie Vilches on Sunday, August 25.
