Spyder Surf Fest

April 27, 2019

The annual Spyder Surf Fest will take place on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Pier Plaza in Hermosa Beach.

The thirteenth annual Spyder Surf Fest will showcase the action sports industry’s most celebrated athletes, brands, fashion, music and more. The family festival will showcase interactive booths, orchestrate meet ‘n greets with the industry’s finest athletes and influencers and offer giveaways and prizes. Past notable surfers who have previously attended Surf Fest have include the legendary Tom Curren, Mark Occhilupo, Dane Reynolds, CJ Hobgood, Donovan Frankenreiter and many others.

On Saturday, the City of Hermosa Beach will induct four new individuals into the “Surfers’ Walk of Fame”, including Pat Ryan as South Bay Legend, Ron Garner as Pioneer, The Beach Boys as Cultural Legend and Liz Benavidez as Female Legend. The honorees will join fellow inductees and surf legends Greg Noll, Dewey Weber, Hap Jacobs, Dale Velzy, Leroy Grannis, Warren Miller and many more. The inductees will be celebrated with a pre-party the evening before held at the Hermosa Beach Community Theater at 710 Pier Avenue, located within the historical Community Center.

“As in years past, Spyder Surf Fest is all about the industry and families getting together and having fun as we continue to celebrate surfing. The top name brands in the surf, skate and action sports joins us for this day to help inspire the next generation of youth and stoke them out” said Dennis Jarvis, Founder of Spyder Surf Shops in it’s 36th year of business. “Spyder Surf Fest is not just about keeping action sports alive in Hermosa alone, but it’s extremely important to remember how much our town has contributed to the sport and that it truly is one of the original birthplaces of surfing on the mainland.”

Pier Plaza will also amplify the sounds of musical acts Jamisen Jarvis, Kevin Sousa, special guests Little Dume, PARK WILD, Dylan Rouda, Alinea and Good Vibe. Kevin Sousa will be the MC.

Assembly member Al Muratsuchi will speak on his bill AB 1782, where Surfing has become the sport of California and how we can work harder to be a more sustainable industry.

Starting at 6:30 p.m., the Surf Fest festivities will continue its long-time, official, after-party tradition at Watermans Restaurant in Hermosa Beach to celebrate the surf industry along with the new Surfers’ Hall of Fame inductees.

Participating brands include new presenting sponsor VANS “off the wall”, ELECTRIC sunglasses, as well as returning brands Sanuk, SPY, Quiksilver, Billabong, Hurley, VOLCOM, Vissla and more. National and South Bay-based non-profits will include Surfrider and others.
