National Public Lands Day: Mission Conservation

September 26, 2020

Saturday, September 26 is National Public Lands Day. It was established 26 years ago to raise awareness of the importance for the country to enjoy and appreciate our public lands. The community is invited to team up with The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy and Agents of Discovery for a safe and fun Kids Adventure.

Agents of Discovery, the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy and several other leading conservation organizations are bringing National Public Lands Day to young people with “Mission Conservation.” Using a smart phone application, Agents of Discovery will help make conservation education fun and engaging!

National Public Lands Day (NPLD) is the perfect occasion to start a mission. NPLD is held the fourth Saturday in September as a way to encourage everyone to help support our nation’s cherished and irreplaceable public lands. This year on September 26, 2020 the theme is “More Ways to Connect to Nature.” Working since 1988 to save over 1,600 acres of natural lands that now will be protected forever, the Land Conservancy seeks to raise awareness of National Public Lands Day to highlight the health and biological benefits of conserved lands. Executive Director Adrienne Mohan says, “Activities like Agents of Discovery will help students discover the wonders of nature found in preserved natural lands, iconic parks, national forests, marine estuaries, and other public areas even during these challenging times”.

Everyone is encouraged to participate – it is totally FREE and available on the Google Play or App Store. After you download Agents of Discovery, select “Mission Conservation: September – Celebrating Public Lands” and join Agent Peregrine Falcon to celebrate our Public Lands! Want to see a real Peregrine Falcon? They can often be seen soaring in the skies along the coastline of Vicente Bluffs Reserve in Rancho Palos Verdes.
