I was finally able to stop by the Douglas Kirkland Photography Exhibition at the Palos Verdes Art Center last Saturday, which happened to be the final day of the show. Talk about sliding in under the wire!
I wasn’t familiar with the name of the photographer, but I definitely knew his work – as I’m sure many of you do, but just don’t know it! His body of work includes some of the most iconic photographs ever taken.
Between 1960 and the present, Douglas Kirkland has photographed over 2,000 assignments and more than 600 major celebrities – from Marilyn Monroe to Angelina Jolie. During the same period he worked on the sets of more than 150 motion pictures, including The Sound of Music, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Out of Africa, Titanic, Moulin Rouge, Australia and The Great Gatsby.
As I mentioned above, the show has completed its run, but here are a few pics I took so you can see what you missed!
