The City of Hermosa Beach Community Resources Department is launching a membership program for users of the Hermosa Beach Skate Park today, Monday, April 8, that will eliminate the requirement for a parent or guardian to sign a liability waiver each time a child under the age of 18 visits the park.
“We want to encourage our young community members to exercise and enjoy the outdoors, and the Skate Park is a great place to skate safely,” said Hermosa Beach Mayor Stacey Armato. “After noticing a decline in Skate Park usage, the Community Resources Department developed this streamlined solution to encourage use of the Skate Park through annual memberships that eliminate the need for parents or guardians to have to sign a liability waiver every time a minor child uses the Skate Park.”
The Skate Park Membership Program is voluntary and will be available to all Skate Park users for a $10 annual fee. Skate Park users can purchase a membership at the Community Center offices from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday through Sunday. A parent or legal guardian must be present with anyone under 18 years of age to sign the liability form at the time the membership is purchased. A photo ID will be issued at the time of purchase, and members must present this ID to the Skate Park monitor to gain entry into the Skate Park.
Membership is not required to use the park. Daily liability waivers will still be available for those who don’t wish to purchase an annual membership.
The Hermosa Beach Skate Park is located at 710 Pier Avenue in Hermosa Beach. It is open from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday and from noon to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It is also open noon to 7 p.m. on Hermosa Beach City School District holidays and vacation days.
Skaters in the park can use skateboards, scooters and in-line skates. All park users must wear a helmet, elbow pads and knee pads. In-line skaters must also wear wrist guards.
