Foodtopia – A Food-inspired Workshop Series for Young Creatives – Invent Hybrid Kitchen Tool
Let’s have fun at FOODTOPIA! We’ll play, sketch, design, build, tinker and tune-up our own inventions using recycled materials. Workshops begin with sketching exercises before exploring different art challenges inspired by EAT. For participants 10 and up. Join us on select Fridays; no RSVP required. Everyone has a food story. Access and develop your food story for yourself or for publication with food writer and historian Karla T. Vasquez. Karla Diaz: Prison Gourmet
A restaging of Karla Diaz’s multi-disciplinary installation Prison Gourmet will take place in ESMoA’s gallery. Prison Gourmet encourages visitors to think about the politics of food and resistance. The project evolved from the artist’s personal experience with an imprisoned family member. During the performance, Diaz will recreate one of the prison recipes she has collected from inmates and give samples of the dish to the audience. Q+A to follow. Admission: FREE
