El Segundo Museum of Art

Open to the public Thursday through Saturday

ESMoA - sbbjThe El Segundo Museum of Art (ESMoA) opened its doors in January 2013 with the intent to make art more accessible through creative and interactive experiences designed to engage the community.

Founded by Brian and Eva Sweeney and curated by Bernhard Zuenkeler, ESMoA is a non-profit art space located in a new building next to the former post office on Main Street.

The museum has about 2,000 square feet of soaring exhibit space and is open to the public free of charge Thursday through Saturday.

During the week, it functions as a laboratory for teachers and students from the local schools. Concerned with the cut backs in school art programs, one of the Sweeney’s goals is to have all local school children come through the space to experience international art first hand.

The opening exhibit featured classic and contemporary pieces from the Sweeney’s personal collection. ESMoA plans to showcase other private collections and individual works as well. Throughout the year, the museum will also host a variety of programs.

ESMoA is determined to spread the spark of creativity in this laboratory by the sea.
