Driftwood Wine Bar & Kitchen

December 28, 2018

There’s not much I enjoy more than discovering new, local restaurants.

A couple of months ago, I read an article about Driftwood Wine Bar & Kitchen in a local publication. I tore out the page and kept it in my office where I wouldn’t forget about it.

The menu looked enticing, and with the holiday lull, I finally had time to stop in and have a bite.

My husband and I had an errand on the hill and our plan was to eat at Driftwood afterward. It’s located in the former Corazon space and currently open for dinner starting at 4 p.m. Starting later in January, they’ll begin offering brunch.

The decor is coastal casual with, you guessed it, plenty of driftwood accents. The layout is a series of small spaces, giving it an intimate feel.

The menu offers Small Plates, Bigger Plates, Soup/Salad and Sweet Endings and details the ingredients for each dish. It’s not a large menu but they cover all the bases with seafood, chicken, beef and vegan/vegetarian options.

The menu descriptions had our mouths watering – everything sounded really good and it took us a while to decide what to order. Eventually, we went with the Calamari and Avocado Toast to start, followed by Fish & Chips and Fried Green Tomato Sliders.

Our server pointed out the Happy Hour Menu included a couple of our choices, and since I don’t like to over order (or over eat), I had the Happy Hour slider (one) instead of the entree slider (two).

The Calamari was cooked to perfection and the Avocado Toast was topped with tasty micro-greens. JB is a bit of a Fish & Chips expert and he said it was possibly the best he’s ever had. BTW, neither the Calamari nor the Fish was greasy (one of my pet peeves). The Slider was phenomenal with a nice bite from the pimento cheese.

Compared to most eateries, the portions would be considered small, and while I appreciate that since I don’t like to stuff myself, everything was so good, I was tempted to order more. Instead, we ordered dessert, Chocolate Pot Du Creme…. and I’m glad I saved room for it!

I can’t wait to return and try all the other menu items!
