We had dinner the other night at the new Kalaveras restaurant in Riviera Village located in the former Casa Pulido space.
Redondo Beach is the newest location for this growing restaurant chain. There are others in Montebello and Bellflower. The menu is Modern Mexican rooted in traditional Mexican dishes.
The menu we were given wasn’t the same as the menu on the website (possibly because they just opened or maybe they create a different menu for each location…. not sure about that). The place was packed and we were able to see several menu items as they went by us.
The nachos appetizer was gigantic and looked fantastic, but we planned to order entrees and didn’t want to fill up, so we passed on that dish.
We started with an appetizer of six potato and cheese taquitos layered on a bed of black bean sauce with pickled onion, greens and cojita cheese. It was a good starter, simple and tasty, and a perfect portion for three people.
The shrimp tacos were served on a soft corn tortilla with tomatoes, crisp cabbage, peppers and onion. Delicious and refreshing with just enough bite.
The Burnout Burrito was ENORMOUS…. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a burrito that size. Served dry, it was stuffed with steak and shrimp. My nephew loved it and I was impressed by the way he polished it off.
There were several other menu items that appealed, but we could only eat so much. It was our first visit but I definitely plan to return and try several other items!
