Destination: Art Fifth Anniversary Celebration

Destination: Art will celebrate its fifth anniversary with a Gala Reception on Saturday, November 16 from 4 to 7 p.m.

A milestone of South Bay culture will be marked at the original combined studio and gallery art space with a gala reception, silent auction and debut of a new exhibition.

Destination: Art was established to fill a void in the South Bay. The founding artists had known each other and participated in several art groups for many years but wanted to create a more accessible art space. These artists envisioned a dedicated studio where each could paint and thrive on their mutual creativity. And a gallery space was needed where they, and other local artists, could exhibit their work, as well as offer classes.

The founders saw a need to provide access to art from a growing public demand for local South Bay art. As more famed artists began crowding the smattering of South Bay galleries, those who live and create locally felt displaced. The concept of Destination: Art took shape, and its door opened in November 2014.

Today there are eight Studio artists and eight Gallery artists, and nearly 100 Associate Artists, who take classes, volunteer and have their own annual show in June.

All media formats are represented including oils, pastels, acrylics, watercolors and all types of art from beautiful landscapes to abstract contemporary are on exhibit. The gallery is updated frequently with new expressions of creativity, and providing the public with fresh opportunities to experience and buy art.

The teaching space at Destination: Art is a big part of its success. “In addition to classes and workshops by our own studio members and local artists, we offer instruction by world-renowned artists, which is a testament to the caliber of talent in the South Bay,” says President and Founding Studio Artist, Dave Wolfram. “We also encourage the general public to take classes to express their creativity. And just for fun we can accommodate Wine and Canvas private parties.”

Destination: Art is involved and active in the South Bay Community. In addition to involvement in the City of Torrance’s Tournament of Roses float design, artists have partnered with local non-profit organizations donating their time and talents; participated in the annual Torrance Cultural Arts Festival and are active members of the Downtown Torrance Business Association.

Destination: Art was the recipient of the 2018 Excellence in Arts Award for Visual Arts & Design from the City of Torrance Cultural Arts Commission. “This was an incredible honor for us,” continued Wolfram. “We appreciate the acknowledgment of our genuine love of Torrance, and our commitment to the arts.”

The fifth anniversary reception will debut a new exhibit of resident artists’ work, plus a show of select paintings from Associate Artists. Every Studio and Gallery artist will also contribute a painting for the much-anticipated Silent Auction including such international talents as Desmond O’Hagan, Eminent Pastelist of the International Association of Pastel Societies; and acclaimed contemporary impressionist painter Tony Allain. “The auction will be a rare opportunity to acquire exceptional art at a value, for our important contributions to the arts in the South Bay,” Wolfram continued.

“We warmly invite the public to celebrate local art with us, and our five successful years,” Wolfram concluded. “Art collectors, buyers and newcomers alike will enjoy their experience.”

The show will run through December 15, 2019.
