Deluca Trattoria

225 Richmond Avenue
El Segundo, CA 90245
310- 640-7600
Cuisine: Italian
Jackie says: Deluca Trattoria has been in El Segundo for as long as anyone can remember but it now has a new owner. Andrea Francesco hails from Florence, Italy and made the jump across the pond, bringing his mother, and her recipes, to our corner of Santa Monica Bay. The menu is extensive and features AUTHENTIC Italian dishes – nothing has been ‘Americanized’ – and every flavorful bite tastes like a little piece of Tuscany. Forget what you think you know about Italian food, this is the real deal. Deluca also offers an impressive wine selection with numerous wines by the glass (that’s a big + in my book!). The live music on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights enhances the dining experience and makes Deluca the perfect spot for a date night or dinner with a group of friends. Whatever the occasion, be sure to start the evening with a drink in the backyard garden!

Orlando’s Pizzeria & Birreria

1000 Torrance Boulevard
Redondo Beach, CA 90277
(310) 792-9300
Cuisine: Italian
Jackie says: Right after Orlando’s opened, I’d heard several people raving about the food. My husband and I went for dinner on a Saturday night and were surprised by the transformation of this former Pizza Hut space. The room is spacious and features bold art, enormous light fixtures and a giant blackboard listing the day’s specials. The name ‘Pizzeria & Birreria’ is an understatement – in addition to pizza and pasta, the menu offers a nice assortment of appetizers; mozzarella & salumi bar; poutine; gourmet burgers; salads and sophisticated entrees. The presentation is spectacular – the food is so beautifully plated, you’ll want to gaze at it for a while before digging in – and each bite offered exceptionally nuanced flavors. This is elegant, quality, Italian cuisine foodies will brag about ‘discovering’ but don’t be intimidated – this is a very family-friendly restaurant. On the night we went, there were several families with young children enjoying a casual Saturday night meal. Orlando’s works on several levels: intimate date night, quick bite, family meal or a languid dinner that stretches into the wee hours with a group of good friends.
