April’s Fools: Foolish Love

April’s Fools Comedy Improv Troupe presents Foolish Love on Saturday, February 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the Second Story Theater.

If you plan to honor our warriors this Veterans Day, the following is a list of local military memorial sites located throughout the South Bay. Official services are planned at most of these sites over the holiday weekend. Contact city offices for specifics.

Redondo Beach Veterans Day Memorial & Tribute: November 11, 2013

The City of Redondo Beach will observe Veterans Day 2013 at the Veterans Memorial in beautiful Veterans Park at 1 p.m. on Monday, November 11.

The solemn observance will include reflection and remembrance, music, commentary and honors to all those members of the military who have served their country.

Local elected officials and military dignitaries will be in attendance and take part in the tribute.(Read More)

Restaurant for Roses

The Torrance Rose Float Association invites the community to the next Restaurant for Roses event on Wednesday, February 12 at the IHOP Restaurant at the Torrance Crossroads Shopping Center.

We all saw the fabulous, award-winning Torrance Float in this year’s Parade of Roses. Well, they raise funds all year long to make the float happen every year. Here’s your chance to contribute! Enjoy some delicious food while supporting the Torrance Rose Float Association.

IHOP will donate 20% of all purchases to the TRFA fundraiser. Print out the flyer and bring it with you or (SAVE A TREE) and pull it up on your smart phone.

Everychild Foundation Healing Center

The Richstone Family Center invites the community to attend the Everychild Foundation Healing Center Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting on Wednesday, February 12 at 10 a.m.

The project was launched in 2016, when Richstone received a $1M grant from the Everychild Foundation. Now complete, the expanded facility houses 14 new therapy offices, a dedicated art therapy room and large multi-purpose community space that supports a broad spectrum of integrated trauma-focused treatment, wellness, and violence prevention programs for children and their families.

Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the facility. Refreshments will be served.

The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce presents Women of Influence on Wednesday, February 12 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Sunrider International.

The event honors the achievements and and leadership of the following Torrance Women:

South Bay Spirit Award: Charlene Nishimura, Pediatric Therapy Network
Dedicated Leader Award: Tara O’Brien, Kaiser Permanente

Registration starts at 11:30 a.m. followed by lunch and the awards at noon.

Our Village Fundraiser

Rock & Brews will host the Our Village Fundraiser all day Thursday, March 5 at the PCH location.

Our Village, is a 501 (c)(3), non-profit, federally registered charity based in Redondo Beach, CA. Their mission is to help children, teenagers, and young adults with autism, ADHD, social anxiety and other social skills needs, by providing social skills groups that are research-based and offer exceptional quality for families.

15% of all food and beverage sales, including take-out orders, will be applied toward the donation, excluding sales tax and gratuity.

TRAA Press Conference & Community Call To Action

The Torrance Refinery Action Alliance (TRAA) will hold a Press Conference & Community Call To Action for the fifth anniversary of the Torrance Refinery explosion on Saturday, February 15 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Doubletree Hotel in Torrance.

Th event features speakers, short TRAA-produced videos, and an announcement of a major new campaign to mandate that the Torrance Refining Company and Valero in Wilmington — the only two refineries in California that use HF — transition to one of the modern, vastly safer processes.

Hermosa Beach Look Ahead Program

The Hermosa Beach Look Ahead Program will use virtual reality to show the effects of climate change on Wednesday, February 19 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Hermosa Beach Farmers’ Market.

The Hermosa Beach Pier, Pier Plaza and The Strand are among the most popular destinations in the City, so it may be hard to imagine them submerged in water due to rising sea levels.

The City of Hermosa Beach will help the public see just what that would be like with a new initiative, Look Ahead Hermosa Beach, which uses virtual reality (VR) to provide an immersive experience of the city’s risks of flooding and how climate action can make a difference in protecting the community. The City is launching this program in partnership with the U.S. Geological Survey, Climate Access and Whitespace VR.

State of the Region

The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce hosts the 2020 State of the Region Luncheon with Congresswoman Maxine Waters and Congressman Ted Lieu, on Thursday, February 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton Torrance-South Bay.

South Bay constituents can expect Waters and Lieu to delve into myriad advocacy priorities for the region, including education funding; workforce development; infrastructure and transportation efforts; and land use and development. This annual event provides an update on those policy concerns with particular emphasis on how federal policy decisions may affect our region.
