 The WHO extended its declaration of a global health emergency today. The move comes after their original decision to announce a “public health emergency of international concern” on January 30. More than 3.2 million around the world have been sickened by the virus and nearly a quarter of a million have died. There has been a rapid rise in new cases in Africa and South America but the growth rate of the virus has appeared to slow in many other countries in Asia and Europe

Torrance Cares Farmers Market Curbside Pick-Up

Torrance Cares Farmers Market now offers curbside pick-up.

This program is intended to support Torrance Residents during the COVID-19 pandemic; so they can be successful in their “Safer at Home” efforts. This includes:
​Seniors (60 years of age and older), those with disabilities, and those with underlying health conditions

The Torrance Cares Farmers Market Curbside Pick-Up Program allows these at-risk residents to pre-order a pre-selected produce box directly from the farmer and pick-up the produce at the Wilson Park round-about, without having to get out of the car.

Torrance Cares 4 Seniors: In Home COVID-19 Testing

The City of Torrance is now providing free, In Home COVID-19 Testing to at-risk seniors (65 and older) who live in the City of Torrance.

The COVID-19 nasal swab test (currently the most reliable indicator of the presence of Coronavirus infection) will be administered by Torrance Fire Department personnel in the comfort of your home.

At this time, testing is limited to Torrance residents 65 years of age and older who are displaying symptoms of COVID-19, have underlying chronic health problems or have limited access to transportation.

Coffee to the Frontlines LA Edition

Coffee to the Frontlines was started in New York City to purchase coffee at full cost from locally owned cafés to treat health care workers and first responders as a way to thank them. Now it’s come to the South Bay!

L.A. County Opens COVID-19 Testing to All Residents

The City of Los Angeles, in partnership with the County of Los Angeles and CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort), is providing FREE COVID-19 Testing to ALL Los Angeles County residents, whether or not you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

Priority for the same or next day testing is still given to people with symptoms, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, muscle pain, headaches, sore throat, or a new loss of sense of smell.

 The global death toll from Covid-19 has passed 225,000, led by the US, Italy and Britain

 The WHO reported there are 102 potential Covid-19 vaccines in development around the world and 8 of the potential vaccines are approved for clinical trials. Of the 7 groups approved for clinical trials on humans, 4 are from China, 1 is from England, 1 is American and another is a combined American and European group. The American National Institutes of Health (NIH) trial was the first to start testing in human trial subjects on March 16

 Adding to growing evidence that coronavirus can spread through air, scientists have identified genetic markers of the virus in airborne droplets, many with diameters smaller than one-one-thousandth of an inch. It remains unknown if the virus in the samples they collected was infectious, but droplets that small, which are expelled by breathing and talking, can remain aloft and be inhaled by others. The WHO has downplayed this possibility, saying that the disease is mostly transmitted through larger droplets that do not remain airborne for long
