Artist Richard Stephens of Cannery Row Studios

Artist Richard Stephens launched Cannery Row Studios in Redondo Beach over 20 years ago as home, refuge and springboard for local artists.

While many businesses have struggled to keep their doors open, Stephens and his in-house artists have managed to thrive in spite of the economic downturn and inevitable fluctuations in the South Bay art scene.

Born in Stockton, Stephens was raised in the South Bay and while he has no official address and refuses to divulge exactly where he lives, he visibly hasn’t strayed far.

November 6, 2011 (Surf’s Up!)

The rain swept through the Southland on Friday, making for a clear, crisp autumn Saturday, so we took Scout for a stroll along the Esplanade and spent about an hour watching the surfers do their thing on a good size swell. The forcast calls for more rain so why not spend a couple of hours at the circus? Circus Vargas is back in town at the corner of Hawthorne and Torrance Boulevards. See the calendar link for details.

November 5, 2011 (Revamp Boutique & Glam Lounge)

Met up with TM last night and stopped in the new Revamp Boutique & Glam Lounge. They’ve got some fabulous clothes at great prices. I found the most adorable tutu skirt on the sale rack and picked it up for $25! They’ll be celebrating their grand opening all weekend, so if you get a chance, be sure to stop by. They’re located at 209 Avenue I in Riviera Village in Redondo Beach.
