Beginning Tuesday, March 14 through Monday, April 3, guests 18 and over, who fill out a bracket in the restaurant will have the chance to win a prize from their local Rock & Brews restaurant and will also be entered to win a grand prize – a trip for two to Chicago and tickets to attend a premier music festival this summer.

The restaurants are equipped with high-tech features such as a concert quality sound system and multiple flat screen televisions and will broadcast all the 2017 Men’s NCAA Basketball Tournament games throughout the restaurant, creating the ultimate experience for guests and fans alike.

Palos Verdes Art Center’s exhibition of wearable art returns with innovative works in fiber, jewelry and accessories by artists from around the globe chosen by an international jury. Artists participating in this year’s exhibition are from Asia, Europe, Australia and both North and South America.

Featuring wearable art in all media, Wearable Expressions promotes the adornment of the body seen through the aesthetic lens of fine art. Wearable Expressions is established to promote the sharing of new visions and the exploration of innovative techniques and materials in art to wear.

Aaron G. Green & California Organic Architecture Exhibit

Aaron GreenPalos Verdes Art Center presents the exhibit, Aaron G. Green & California Organic Architecture, on display from January 21 through May 28.

Curated by architect and architecture historian, Alan Hess, the exhibition will feature rare photographs and original architectural renderings and plans from the noted architect’s office, as well as period shelter magazines spotlighting Green’s work.

Cardboard: It surrounds us, linking our desires via the packaging of consumer goods, keeping them safe, quenching our thirst for things. It is a material rarely paid any attention…..but some artists grasp the malleability of it, as well as its strength and ability to be transformed.

This exhibit features 13 artists who have found ways to transform the pulped wood to tell new stories. Some replicate realistic objects, some explore structures, and some just delight with their humor and whimsy.

Carpenter Wagon

Carpenter-Wagon sbbjThe City of Torrance Community Services Department in partnership with The Home Depot will be hosting the Carpenter Wagon again on select Wednesdays this summer.

Staff will help children ages 6 to 14 create a variety of wood craft projects. They can make mailboxes, toolboxes, birdhouses and more! Parents/guardians must be present in order for their child to participate.

Workshops are offered in 50-minute sessions at noon, 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. Sessions are limited to 20 participants and are offered on a first come, first serve basis. Registration will be taken 10 minutes prior to the start of each session. Participation is limited to one session per child per day.

Women’s Safety & Self-Defense Workshop

There will be two sessions: from 9 to 10:15 a.m. and 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Come to this FREE event and get some hands-on experience of helpful defense moves. While you’re there, get an update on laws impacting women’s safety.

Hermosa Beach Surf Expo

Hermosa Beach Surf ExpoSpyder Surfboards presents the first annual Hermosa Beach Surf Expo on Saturday, August 20 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Pier Plaza

The family festival will showcase interactive booths, with industry leaders that manufacture the supplies needed to make the only thing necessary to become a surfer – surfboards.

Award-winning surfboard manufacturer Dennis Jarvis will be shaping surfboards on-site and participating in a live Q &A session with Steve Albin from Aloha Glass-shop, answering questions from the audience about how boards are built.

In addition, the City of Hermosa Beach will induct four new individuals into the “Surfers Walk of Fame” Ted Robinson, Charles ‘Chip’ Post, Kelly Gibson and John Leininger.

Beach Shorts Film Festival

The Beach Shorts Film Fest features short films 6 to 10 minutes in length with surfing or beach lifestyles as the theme. Beach lifestyles covers a broad stroke and in the past has featured skateboarding, beach volleyball, sailing, sandcastle building and so much more.

Emergency First Aid Clinic
